Hi Everyone,
A friend recently came to me with a DVD of a 3 hour meeting that was done at his work place. He said it has video and sound on his PC but only video if played on his home DVD player. I placed the DVD in my DVD player and also got no sound.
I looked at the DVD and it was a +R DVD and my DVD Player was not compatible with DVD+R only DVD-R. So I copied the DVD onto the DVD-R disk using Nero. Still no sound on my DVD Player.
OK, so that next step was to copy the VOB files from the DVD+R and make the other necessary IFO BUF files from the VOB files. Then copy them onto a DVD-R disk. Still no sound.
What I did next was to turn up my 500W Amp to max. when playing either the original or DVD-R copy and you could hear some faint sound. Strange!
I have also noticed that when at the root DVD menu of the original or DVD-R disk it has DVD+VR. That does not look correct, especially on a DVD-R disk. Comments please.
So, if anyone can offer any suggestions as to why I have no sound on a DVD player it would be very much appreciated.
TIA
Greg

Quote: How was the so called dvd made?Camcorder, looks like both dvd players don't like the audio format that was used when the disk was created.Use dvd fick and under the options select audio 5.1,I'm sure dvd flick can convert vobs, just copy the disk to your hardrive and then open up flick, guide below om how to use flick.
I don't know how the DVD was made, I've asked but they don't know. Also DVD flick will not read VOB files.
Any other suggestions appreciated.

Quote: If you download gspot and drop the vob in it, it will tell you what audio format was used, that's if you are interested.
Gspot tells me AC3 constrant bit rate. Also,0xbd[0x80]:48000Hz 192 kb/s tot , stereo (2/0)
Quote: you can try this, but unfortunately its not free, you can download a 15 day trial.

Originally posted by killalot: The free way to do it would be to convert the disk to divx, or the vobs, then drop the divx file in dvd flick and convert it back to the video_ts file format. If your dvd players can play divx even better wouldn't need to use dvd flick, link below for converting the disk, vobs.

Quote: If you want to pursue this further, select a small clip with sound (five seconds max) and upload to a file share like MediaFire.
Thanks Attar, but this started as what I thought was going to be an easy job for a friend, so I don't think it's worth spending anymore time on. Thanks anyhow for your kind offer.

Well dammit. I'm a dork with no life, and I was really truly interested to see how this was going to get resolved.

My friend with the DVD is a counselor and the 3 hour video is a meeting between her and the conflicting parties. I hope you can understand it would not be right for me give out any part of the interview, no matter how small.
