Nokia 6300 Mastercode doesn't work

Hi,
So I have obtained the master code for my Nokia 6300 (IMEI No 357670014176316), which is meant to be 0071610426.
But no matter what I try, the phone still just comes up with "Code Error" when I put in this code. I have tried turning it off for hours and re-entering, I have tried entering it then turning off and then trying the default security code - nothing. The only other suggestion I have had is to flash the handset using *#707#, but I can't enter any *# numbers because there is a constant prompt for the security code.
Can anyone help?
