Last week I didn't do much on the web. AD was the ONLY site I used that has adds. I caught a few last week. I try to avoid mouse overs but some of your adds are huge popups. There is no way to avoid them. Obviously some of these had a virus last week.

This will limit my use of your forums. I haven't even answered all the notified responses.

i havent seen them either,although i dont see what the os has to do with it.im still running xp pro and no pop up ads.

I am only guessing. Some pop up adds are so big they cover your screen.

AD was the only web site I went to that had adds that week. I was too busy to do mush of anything. I have gone to browsing in Sandboxie.

Can't agree or disagree with mez as i thought it was some downloads i'd got from here that started playing games with my comp or at least that's where my suspicion was directed, anyway things have been better since i started using the hosts file i got from link below


Mez if your using IE use this it should solve any ad issues tho it can make loading of web pages slower,your best bet is switch browsers

That seemed real light compared to Sandboxie. I think I have a better rated anti spyware than that and it wasn't catching most of them because your defenses think you are installing software. The adds have code that if your mouse pointer touches the add an add window pops up. This mouseover event it what pops open the help bubbles. Some smart ass figured you could pop up real windows with that same event. This window looks like an add but it is a poison window. By closing it, your OS is tricked into 'believing' you have contented to put an executable in the start up folder. The next time you boot up it installs. New software can be added as updates each time you boot up. Because it behaves as legitimate software scanners do not detect anything unusual. This technology is very hot. AD has had at least one article on this.

Sandboxie can be used for anything. When you browse, your memory is sandboxed, and disk access is vectored. Something saves to C:\temp it is really saved to Sandboxie/C/temp the folder is created as it writes. This new malware puts a little executable in the update folder and gets installed the next time you boot up. With Sandboxie the files are never executed because they are saved in a quarantine folder.

I got Sandboxie to run free utilities you down load for a specific job. Too many of them has a virus inside.
