Can't upgrade my devhook 1.5 psp to a newer firmware

I haven't used my psp in ages and bought Gran Turismo for it, but last time I used it it had firmware 1.5 on it with devhook or something for playing games from the memory card.

I tried to update the firmware to the official 5.5 firmware that came on the disc, but it just goes to a screen with the background and an X and a O at the bottom, i hit the buttons and it goes to other blank screens (sometimes having a > on the side or just an X or O at the bottom.

I have tried upgrading the firmware via the computer and other ways and it goes to the same screen. I read to just format my memory card and I did that but the issue remains. I am guessing the firmware was flashed on my psp to something strange where it can't upgrade.

Is there any way to fix this? Thanks SO MUCH in advance!!!

The very first thing you want to do is STOP trying to upgrade to any official firmware.

Are you trying to un mod your psp? Some sony firmware's are not downgradable so don't come running back to these forums asking for help when you patch your psp so you can't play iso's anymore.

Look for a guide in the stickies. There are many.

yeah i dont care if its modded anymore. It is just complicated for me to keep up, I just wanna play some games. It would be cool if I could update it to a newer modded firmware but I don't think im smart enough to do it.

UGH this is so frustrating i cant install ANY firmware

any firmware i try to update and it goes to that blank screen. I am stuck on 1.5 that will not update or do anything. PLEASE HELP! I will paypal someone $10 if they can help resolve this!

Yeah, manually installing from 1.50 firmware it is indeed frustrating as normally you would have to do your updates incrementally..
I think you will find *THIS* most helpful...Scroll down to where it says "How to Reflash/update Firmware (Semi-Bricked/1.50 PSP Users See Here)"

From there you may use the program found *HERE* to jump to 5.50GEN-B2)

Done.
