custom firmware update is corrupt?

Im trying to update up to gen d2. but im trying to install gen-b or b2 at the moment. its on my fat psp but it just says corrupt data when I go to the update on the psp screen. is there a small faq just for install stupid firmware? all the faqs and "firmware updates" im getting just have all the crap thrown together with nothing labeled if it works with this psp or that. I really don't want to brick my psp right after I got it :/ also right now im on firmware gen-a. any help is appreciated ^^

The files must of become corrupted as you downloaded, try redownloading the file.
