Alright guys this is a fairly recent problem. My psp will not read UMDs at all. When I popped off the back UMD cover to look at it here is what I saw; the UMD is rotating and the laser is trying to read and moving. However the UMD kinda slowly spurts instead of going into a full spin. It never gets full speed. Just spurts continuously. Keep in mind the laser moves along it's track and focuses itself. I tried multiple UMDs and have cleaned the lens. I also blew the whole area with canned air. Still no luck. So anyone have any idea?
On a side note: sometimes when turning the PSP on from a fresh start it gets stuck at startup. It comes up with the time, date, battery life, and has the Sony XMB waves moving but never gets past that. From that frozen startup it won't go into standby mode either. I simply restart it and it works. This problem is likely unrelated but I though II would throw it in there.

Thanks for the help.

The laser is shot. Also your startup problem, does it only appear when you got an UMD in the drive? If yes, it is because of autostart. The PSP tries to load the UMD, but fails to.
You could a) switch the laser (which I don't recomment) or b) switch the entire drive (which I did when my PSP 2k acted the same way).

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

I think I'll pass on replacing it. It's beat to hell, and I don't play UMDs much anyways. It won't be long before other parts start failing.

As far as the startup goes, it happens with out a UMD. Both with autostart on and off. So that doesn't seem to be the problem.

Thanks for the help,
Jake
