New to psp, modding with cfw

Hate to be the person to start topics when there are so many covering the same issue but I'm completely new to the psp modding scene.

I recently got a psp 1000 with 4gb memory card and it has system software version 2.71. What do I need to do to be able to play psp and ps1 backups? Any help is greatly appreciated

Just update it to 6.39 official firmware, then get 6.39 LCFW as homebrew enabler to install 6.39 ME v9.

There are readmes included in both archive files, follow them and you are good to go.

Being on a firmware that low you might need to update to 5.00 first, not sure about that. If the official update to 6.39 doesn't work try 5.00 first.

After somewhat confusedly and carefully downloading firmware I was able to get everything working like I wanted (playing psp and ps1 games) perfectly. Thank you very much for steering me in the right direction!
