Ok I've been reading a lot the past 2 days and really have information overload and was wondering if I can get some help narrowing down what I have to do.

I'm not sure what motherboard the PSP has but when I remove the battery, the top right of the Sony sticker says "PSP-2001" (no letter) if that helps.

It is a Slim PSP running firmware 3.95. I have one battery and one 1gb memory stick. I would like to be able to run ISO's and emulators/roms (if this is against TOS I will edit it out). I realize that I will probably have to make a Pandora battery and a Magic Memory Stick but I would like use reversible processes since I only have one of each.

There seems to be a lot of guides on the internet but they are all a couple years old and almost all of them are "missing" (404 not found).

Any and all help is really appreciated.

You have to have a PSP with custom firmware if you want to make a pandoras battery but if you dont have a pandoras battery you can use a new hack out called ChickHEN, you can mod a psp on official firmware 5.02 without pandora. youtube for ChickHEN and you can find out which version PSP you have with PSPIdent

not sure your situation, but i would suggest buying a pandora and mms. you can buy them toghether in a set for around 20 dollars. that way if something goes wrong, you have something there to get you back. just google pandora + mms and see what you come up with.
