hi
i am new to all this bricking stuff so go easy on me! i have just bought my sons a PSP 2003 originally purchased april 2008 and using the Sony firmware 5.02. I believe this means it is easier to unbrick.

Question include what is the best version CFW to install and what do I need to buy? (Pandora, special memory stick). Should I go for the latest firmware or is this just for later PSP models. Is it correct that the PSP needs to be kept with charge? Will official Sony games re-install Sony firmware?

please don?t shout back at me that this has been answered before. i have been spending alot of time searching google and forums for an answer but i suspect alot are out of date or written by incompetent/young posters. I have been scared off by people breaking their PSP attempting to do something they cant! What was best a year ago presumably might not be best now!

Thanks for a confused parent!

thankyou, but this is an example of getting advice that is not correct. The first thing this guide says is ChickHEN needs Sony firmware 5.03.

I have 5.02

then you will have to upgrade to 5.03, that is the only hope for your psp. follow the guides you will be fine.

you have to determine your motherboard, pandora will not work on all motherboards. if it is 88v3 or 90 it will not work. look at your date code or serial number if the date code is 8c or above, then no you cannot, if it is somewhere around hu2500000 or above then no you cannot. that serial is not exact but close.

Actually the TA090v1 can be hacked with a pandora battery. But that only comes with refurbished PSP 2ks.
The serial number isn't a good way to tell, especially because special edition packs have higher serial numbers (hu4xx) and are still hackable. It is only somewhat accurate on the PSP slim piano black US version. And due to this being a 2003 it is definitely not an US PSP. US PSP = 2001, 2003 is UK if I am right.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.
