20 gig hdd, missing 7 gigs after reformatting

like it says, i just got 2 used consoles and reformatted the 20 gig hdd. after reformatting through the xbox it only reads 13.9 gigs available. i know it need some memory but 7 gigs?
could this be the cause of it freezing? reads cd's fine and games right upto the point of playing. it plays all intro's and everything, but as soon as it is your turn to take control it freezes.. Not that hot compared to other 360's. did a pot tweak befor i flashed it. was only reading dvd's and couldn't get right. after a few spoof and swaps got it to read games..
so maybe a bad pot tweak? has foze on dash once or twice and when the dvd stops it makes a load noise like a brake for a HD truck or something.

The 20GB HDD will do that with any 360. I just formatted one, and I got the same results as you. I believe it reserves that space for system updates, but I'm not sure. I'm not sure about your second question, but I doubt it freezes due to the HDD only allocating 13.9GB. More than likely, try doing the POT calibration again.

Yeah, 13.9 GB is normal after formatting it.

More pot tweaking or laser replacement. What type of drive?

I don't know about you but i'm used to finding all sorts of things in xbox's. I've found blood, i've found pieces of candy, i've found so much hair i thought it was a rats nest. I actually welcome the thermal compound messes.




It's pretty funny i actually scraped off the as5 and salvaged it to use it on a few other xbox's.
