Ugh...So after hours of reading and reading and then more reading. Ive come to find that I can not get a backup to work on my 360. I have tried both the CloneCD and the ImgBurn tutorials on here down to the T (with an exception to the book change) Whenever I try to play a backup, it tried to read the DVD+R DL as an actual DVD movie.
From reading, this sounds like it has a lot to do with my inability to change book type (I can set layer break fine) I have tried using CloneCD with the *.dvd file with no success. And the ImgBurn tutorial also on here with no greater success. At first, I was using cheap*** WINDATA DVD's because it's too difficult to pass up a 10 pack for 6 bucks. Then I broke down and bought a 3 pack of Verbatim in hopes it was a media issue. Nothing changed.
I have tried the burning process on two laptops with DL burners, one is:
TSSTcorp CDDVDW TS-L633M 0200 (i believe this is a Samsung drive)
and another laptop with:
PIONEER DVDRW DVR-K15 1.11 (this drive doesnt like ImgBurn and its ridiculously slow at burning for no apparent reason)
Now I have read some people say changing the booktype is not even necessary, and others say the not changing the booktype will result in the Xbox 360 reading my backup as something other than what it really is (similar to my problem)
Aside from not being able to change the booktype, I did download the Lite-On Utility used for changing book types, and it tells me that my TS-L633M is already in DVD-ROM "mode" for its bit setting. So I do want to say my issue lies somewhere else.
I also considered that maybe I didnt do a good flash, however after looking at the files that the latest iPrep got from my BenQ drive in the Xbox, it seemed that it automated everything just fine. And i'd think that if something had gone wrong with the Flash, I would have a big white brick instead of everything else working flawlessly. All games read fine, no problems what so ever besides that I cant get my backups to work.
So enough of my brambling, I rarely come to ask for help on forums anyways since I am capable of reading info for myself. But as of now, im lost, and I need some opinions on what to try next. Is it possible that iPrep flashed my original firmware onto my BenQ drive? I looked at the files iPrep made after flashing my BenQ, one is BENOFW.bin (original fw i suppose) and the other BENCFW.BIN, both located in the "BACKUP" directory, and both have different hashes so I dont think iPrep did "nothing".
Or do I need to break down and get the Pioneer 111 or whatever drive everyone says is the best for this sort of thing? I dont want that to be an option as money is an issue at the moment, so if anyone has any greater suggestions please feel free to post. Thanks everyone for the help, and once again sorry for the ridiculously long topic.
EDIT--As an update, I also downloaded DVDBitsetter and it reported my drive is set to the DVD-ROM bit setting. I fail to see what else could possibly be going wrong...
i have used XDVD mulleter to check the isos and everything was reported green across the board. i havent used ABGX in particularly but i think XDVD should be fine anyways.thank you for your reply. any other possible suggestions?
It sounds like your burning process is all good. I would look more into the drive flash if I were you. Sounds like it wasn't even flashed for some reason. I'd try it again one more time, just to be sure that it's actually loading it. Have you used iPrep before? If anything, try JungleFlasher and see if you have some better results.
Yeah guys thats exactly what happened. Screw iPrep it said everything went good but didnt even flash my drive like it said it did. I used the JungleFlasher method and it worked prefectly. So problem solved! Thanks guys for the help
