Hey people,
Yesterday i had the dreaded 'Red Ring of Death'. I left it for a bit whilst doing some research on the internet. I was about to do the thing where you hold down the sync button and it flashes a code at you but it seemed to be ok after that, i decided to leave it over night to let it calm down from it's paddy.
I've just turned it on to do some killing but half way through the game it crashed. No red ring, so i just Rebooted it. As i'm typing this i'm also giving it another go, but it did it again?
Any ideas?
Daniel

Unfortunately i only had the 'red ring of death' once then on reboot it will not give me the 'ring'. It will play the game as normal but will crash after a few minutes of playing. Not looking good to be honest?
Am I right in saying you cannot get the code off unless you have the red ring?

sorry i just didnt read it right. a good reflow will do wonders, a reball is more expensive but you wont be freezing for a long time.

reflow = getting solder on motherboard to heat up enough to seat back properly in place so there are no cold solder joints. You can perform this procedure by following a simple guide that was made by a member here named w00ly. Depending on how old your 360 is, you may also want to 12 volt mod the fans so it stays cooler.
reball = involves removing the cpu and gpu chips. Cleaning all of the old solder off and using literally 100's of little solder balls and a BGA machine to re-seat the chips with new leaded solder (usually). Might as well buy a new 360 with the money that most people want for this service.

Erm...... Thats a hell of a lot of work going on there. so it's not worth getting a new dvd drive then, is it definatly the gpu then? Might be a good reason to get the 360s then.

Never try a reball with a heat gun. I tried it and then the little things on the GPU (Transistors?) fell off.

from what you have said it sounds like the gpu or cpu, reflowing isnt a tedious process with a heat gun. you just need to be careful and cover the plastic parts.
