360 wont work with dvd drive?

i bought an xbox360 that the drive was broken in it. i purchased a new drive and with no drive the xbox boots to dashboard, when i plug the drive into the xbox power cable only boots to dashboard, if i plug in only the sata no power boots to dashboard, if i plug them both in i just get a blank screen, no red lights anyone have an idea?

yeah got the key on the drive, i've tried with ixtreme and ofw, it seems to be some kind of hardware issue

what drive did you have and whats your new one?
was it a brand new one or one off ebay or somthing

sammy drive was in, replaced with brand new sammy.

same thing with the original drive. the drive that was in it, whom ever had it before pulled the tray out, i assume to get there game out.

sounds a bit like when the jumper is set wrong on the dvd drive on a desktop pc but you obviously dont have that on the xbox. maybe somthings shorting out on the mo/board or you have a bad solder joint. have you tried overheating the mo/board to see if it gives you a temporary fix.

funny you should say that i just overheated it, waiting for it to cool down to try adn see if it worked. it seems to be a short that is what the signs are, and the only thing that could cause that is a solder problem. i resolderd the sata and power connectors, if it needs to be reflowed i'll probally just put it on ebay and hope i get 20 bucks or so for it, i think thats about what i paid for it.
