I did the x-clamp fix and overheated my 360 for 20 mins but I am still getting the 3 red lights as soon as I start it. I did the overheating by unplugging the fan and when it didn't work, I plugged the fan and kept it on the top of my dvd drive and processor heatsink and heated the gpu only. But still it didn't work. What is the problem? Have I put on too much thermal compound, or have I not fixed the heatsinks properly? Should I try different screws and washers? Or is reflow the only option?

the reason is you have broken solder caused by the x-clamp flexing the motherboard. While replacing the x-clamps fixes the flexing, it doesnt fix the broken solder. I guess overheating the system can cause the solder to expand but in my experience the red rings always come back eventually. A reflow will fix the broken solder and you wont have the red rings any more. It's fairly cheap to do, requiring only a $20 heatgun from walmart. Check out my post here:

The secondary error code is 0022 (E10)

always good to have an error code so you can pull up this page http://forums.xbox-scene.com/index.php?showtopic=484726 and see what to focus on. In your case 0022 is cpu error, so focus around there on your reflow (but still putting heat almost evenly to the other components...just get the cpu more)

Just one more thing, I made some compromises on the x-clamp hardware. For instance, I didn't use arctic silver, I used dow corning tc 1996 thermal grease. I used after shave lotion to remove the thermal grease which was there previously. And I also made some compromises on the screws and washers as the exact sizes were not available here. So here is the thing, If I buy a xbox repair kit, would my chances be better taking into consideration that it's not booting up after 20 mins of overheating and with the secondary error code as 0022? I don't have any one here who can reflow my xbox. So should I purchase the Complete Hybrid Advanced Kit(ALL + Shims) or is my xbox gone for good? Please guide me!

I use whatever I can to get that old crappy grease off (goo gone) but be sure to clean them with rubbing alcohol after it's all off. I've also used different sized washers before too and as long as they're not metal and not too thick so you cant get the motherboard in properly then you should be fine. Since you have all the parts it'd probably be better to just buy a heatgun because like I mentioned, overheating the system doesnt get it hot enough to reflow the broken solder

Using a heatgun will do perm. damage to the motherboard

yea people who've bought $300+ reflow stations usually say that (and are trying to recoup that cost by trying to sell fixes in here), regardless of the fact that for me it's been a permanent FIX, not permanent damage (and i'm not selling anything, only giving information). Sure it could damage it if you're not careful but it's not hard to do it right

Can a 0022 error be fixed by x-clamp?

xclamp is an afterthought and will only delay the problem

Tough luck, the CPU in my opinion is the easiest to screw up. Please never overheat your box on purpose ever again. With that said, I'm curious to know how the heat sinks are being held on. Are you bracing it with the metal frame? If not, try that. Reflowing is the best way like some have already said but can easily ruin a box for good. Another thing to know is if you are using washers in between the topside of board and the heat sinks, if you are not, you may have one side cranked more than another. I hope some of this hints are helpful.
