Folks,

I posted the other day regarding flashing a Philips Lite-On 83850c, which was to no avail as it was August 2009. Feeling defeated, I didnt do anything else and just put the console back together.

Now having turned it on just now, I am getting 3 red lights on the console! The Power Supply light is Orange so I tried it on my own another Elite and that console works fine!

Have I bricked the drive on the Elite with the Lite-On83850c? This was all working fine when it was a bare bones system! I dont understand how this can now no longer power up!

I desperately need help as it is someone elses console and I dont fancy forking out £300 for it, although it is under warranty from MS! Could it be an earth problem with the chassis not going on correct??

Any advice please?!!!

I know about secondary error codes, but havent quite figured out how the system works? Are the lights supposed to flash in a particular order?

Any pointers on how to get these codes?

I dont think it cud have got bricked, although using the FreeKey method did produce a Dummy.bin or something..

Dude, you need to relax up and chill out!!

I have been out all day (well since the initial posting of the problem) around 2pm U.K time only to just return at past midnight U.K time!!

The posting you are seeing was sent from a mobile whilst 'on the go' which evidently has posted twice for some reason! Had I have had the chance to check the link and research (which I normally always do before posting!) then quite clearly I would have!!

Double post or not, your response is rather abrupt and whilst I appreciate the assistance, there is absolutely no need for it!!! If you wanna flip out then go do it some where else... so just chill out!

And as an F.Y.I, I will of course check the links which is likely to be tomorrow now and I always make it a habit to do the research part!

and another thing, the secondary error code business has been covered sufficiently on llama.com, now had I have known in the first instance that they may be of significance, as I have never had a red-light error before, then don't you think I would have posted this in my initial post in the first place!!

I dont post here for my health, but more for help for something I have researched and do not know enough about!!!

Ok, if you are still offering up the help, then here is the secondary error code it gave:

0031 = E13 = Unknown could be caused by a short between the heatsink and surrounding capacitors.

i just did a search, and found this here Details for Error -/0031

since you took out the dvd drive last time, i would recommend trying fix #5 first, to replace the dvd power cable , or make sure its connected correctly(could be upside down), and if you find its not connected correctly, it could now mean you have a fried dvd drive

I am suspecting that this is what I have done wrong, put the cable in the wrong way.. but I was under the impression that this is now impossible as they can only go in one way??

I may be wrong on this one though, so I will check it in the morning.. Fingers crossed!!

On another note, I also have another box here with an 0020 error code requiring a fix, I have also checked the same site xbox experts and it is looking like it might need an xclamp fix...?

If it is connected incorrectly and it is fried - what can be done, if anything??

nothing can be done since you didnt get your key off the drive. its basically a paper weight now. (assuming thats the case)

Great, well here is hoping its not fried..!

Reading on LLAMA.COM there was some reference to trying to buy the same drive (where ever I would get that from, no idea, but hey ho) and then fitting it into the drive of the console..

A potential solution, long winded but nonetheless maybe a solution...

still would need the key from drive.

edit..

unless for some reason, only the pcb was fried then i guess you could swap it out, but i bet it would pretty much fry everything.

I probably made the situation worse by turning it on like 5 times!

If there was an off chance that it wasn't fried then i bet it most likely is now, unless there is some miracle and it has managed to survive the onslaught of power or shortss...

Its under warranty with no signs of the console being opened, so i mite try my luck with MS.. slim i think!

as far as the xbox with the 0020 code, you can try what i did before buying a x clamp kit. you let the gpu overheat, and let the solder reflow. i did this with a 0020 rrod 360 i bought from this guy on the street, and it works perfectly now...for now. heres alink and start where it says
"Now for the most important part and most likely the point where the majority of people who were unsuccessful completing this fix failed"

but i'll explain what i did anyway
open up your xbox, lift the dvd drive up and then take the fan shroud off. sit the dvd back down over the gpu heatsink(the one to the left) Then pull the fans from the rear, but dont disconnect them. now sit the fan so that half of it is on the dvd drive and the other is on the cpu heatsink(the one on the right). now turn the xbox on for about 40 mins, turn it off then let it cool for about 15 mins, then turn it on, to see if you get all green lights now

like llama says, this lets your gpu overheat(letting the solder underneath reflow) while keeping the cpu cool(a overheating cpu wont allow the the gpu to overheat), try this before buying anything else. but back to you 8 series lite on, if the power cable was connected wrong, you can still atleast attempt to see if the drive is still working. plug it up correctly, see if you get green lights, and see if the drive reads

I would try sending it to microsoft first, the worst that can happen is they send it back broken.

I am one lucky git!!!

I just connected the drive back in the correct way and it fires up nicely and reading an Original Fifa 09 disc!!

Great stuff! Thanks for all the help and apologies if I have stressed anyone over this...!

I will now make sure that I label the 'top of the power connector' correctly!

Now I can move onto the other actual non-working XBOXs that have a general hardware error...

I will keep myself updated on when the August 2009 83850c drive can be flashed..

they can already be flashed. i did so already a couple weeks ago. i had gotten a xbox from a friend who had just gotten it back from microsoft. when they returned it, they gave him a new 8 series drive. i followed the jungleflasher tut (the new one) and it has instructions for the new drives.

so theres a new "edition" of the 83850c, i would have expected a number change atleast. how do you tell the difference between the drives, if they are using the same firmware version number, or do you just find out when you try to flash it
