If you wanna flash your slim then I would suggest not updating to the beta dash. I flashed the new firmware to my slim, hooked it up and popped in a burned game and it worked. I saw there was a new dashboard update (which I applied for through the beta program) I updated to the new dash and it flashes the lite-on firmware to 0272.
In jungleflasher it just reads it as an unknown firmware. I don't follow c4eva on Twitter (because I refuse to get a twitter) but I've read other places that he knows about it and I assume is looking in to it.

Wow, thats new! The dash can actually flash the firmware on the DVD drive. You got any linkage to back this up?
Also, I think you mean 0225 rather than 0272

Well no links but I did it myself. I have a 9504 lite-on and flashed it, then updated to the new dash. It wouldn't let me play burned games so I plugged it into jugleflasher and came up with an unknown firmware: 0272. I guess I could upload a screenshot of jungleflasher for you and picture of my drive if you want?

Let me guess, if your not part of the beta program, it blocks you from xbox live like the last leaked dash did until it is released officially.

idk about doing it yourself. I got it through the beta program and still have access to live and all that. Hopefully I get the new XGD3 soon.

Yes, it does appear the new beta dash is capable of flashing the drive. Although this is still developing, there are many people (a lot of spanish sites) across the web reporting that the new beta dashboard is flashing their drives to 0272 firmware.
It is recommended that you not update at this time.

Wow, there we have it. Proof that the dash can effect the firmware! Does anyone know if C4Eva or TeamJungle have any plans in place for this?

that makes complete sense that it updates the firmware on ur dvd drive because the current firmware would not be able to read the new disc format microsoft is using.

This could very well be a blessing in disguise. If MS can update drive firmware remotely then so can the end user (after c4e and the others figure out MS's method).

I already tried that. If you update to the new dash and then reflash it still won't work because it has new firmware on it. The new dash is beta anyways so I would have fun with the slims being modded and wait for an official release of it. It's not necessary to have at this time.
When I did mine it forced me to do it because I signed up for the beta and actually got it so if I didn't update it worked just like a real one and disconnected me from live.
Oh well, at least I'll get another copy of Reach in the XGD3 format.
