Hello all,

I know you can't replace your Xbox 360's disk drive. I read around and found that the disk drive and motherboard both have keys, etc, etc. So! I was hoping that someone could tell me if replacing JUST the laser lens will help my problem. Honestly, my Xbox works just fine. It's been up and running since about 2008-2009. It's been having a problem of reading games, and loading them, but after I hit "A" to play the game it tells me the disc is unreadable. Sometimes I get the "Disc Unrecognized" error for other games. I was hoping, after reading around about how to fix the issue, that replacing the laser lens will help my issue.

It might help. Replacing the laser on a BenQ or LiteOn drive is piece of cake, and from the date you mentioned (2008-2009) it's a safe assumption that you have one of these two drives.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

Thanks for your reply Eisherz. I did a lot of googling and reading aborut that kind of stuff. After taking my xbox apart a thousand times just for the "hellabit" ;D I realized it would be pretty easy. I just hope it will work. I don't have a soldering iron/gun to mess around with that circuit board inside of the disk drive. I just don't want to spend money on the new 360 E console. If I have to I will though. It just means more time without my xbox... ):

You may or may not be the same person who posted on another forum about how to remove a soldering ball from a laser hop yesterday.Just seems a bit coincidental.Someone suggested holding a hot needle between a pair of pliers.Well i cannot condone such actions its your choice and the risks are higher than using a soldering iron. There are 3 traces under this solder so the traces have to be free of obstruction and not touching in any way.Personally i would just go out and buy a cheap soldering iron and if you have friends who run into the same problem then you get your worth out of its cost.

I posted nothing about soldering on any other forum. Usuall I can figure things out on my own. I just want to be sure that replacing the laser lens is the best solution for my disk drive in my 360. I was also curious if there's anyway to speed up how fast it opens and closes.

Not sure about that speed up thing. If you want to do this as cheap as possible get a RROD box from the same MFR date with the same drive you have (LiteOn and BenQ have the same laser unit) and either exchange the laser with the one from your drive or exchange the entire drive. It is possible to exchange the drive, you just have to get the key from your drive board and flash it to the other drive, just check out the jungleflasher tutorial.

Allenfourlife, if you own a set of jewelers tools, you can try "pot tweaking" the laser. It is a temp fix, could get another couple months out of it. Google it. Wouldn't do any more harm.
