I currently have a ms25 drive that plays only dvd's and for some reason doesn't play games.

I was going to order a new samsung dvd drive but I came across a possible problem. If I buy a new sammy dvd drive and its ms28 can I still put the ms25 board into it and will it work?

I was thinking "yes" because its just a f/w version right?

Before you buy a new drive, you need to attempt a POT calibration for your laser. Basically it just adjusts your laser to be more powerful so that it can read games better.

If that fails, then you can worry about replacing your drive. You don't need to get a whole new drive, though. You can just replace the laser component.

If it does come down to you needing to replace the ms25 with an ms28, I would imagine that yes, you could just replace the board. I am not 100% certain on that, though.

I believe the 360 will throw an "E" error (E64 or E66, something like that) because it will detect the MS28 when it is expecting a MS25. That is if you just put in the MS28. But like qwert99 said, I think you should be able to put the MS25 board in a MS28.

ok I'm going to try and calibrate the laser and see if that works first.
