Alright, gotcha. Firmware Toolbox is actually a much more reliable program, so I recommend using that to flash, especially a Hitachi.
JF is Jungle Flasher, yes. The nice thing about JF is how easy it is to use. You can load your the 1.51 modified firmware you saved into Jungle Flasher and just see if it reports the correct key very easily. You don't need to use it for anything else. Keep using Firmware Toolbox for flashing.
If you can load your modified firmware in Firmware Toolbox to check the key, you can do that instead. I don't quite remember how it works with Firmware Toolbox.
$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

AHA! I think I know whats wrong, please confirm if my suspicion is right.
At the bottom of my 1.51 firmware it says "Firmware type is: iXtreme :79:V1.4-12x"
Yep. That's definitely your problem right there. I would recommend just continuing to use Firmware Toolbox, though. Don't use Jungle Flasher if you are already making this work with Firmware Toolbox. You don't want to brick your drive.
Just find out where the firmware is stored on your computer and put the 1.51 in there instead.

Glad you figured it out.
Haha too late with the warning, already used Jungle Flasher.
That was defiantly my issue, after using JF it works awesome. All my burned discs work including the Memorex burned @ 8x.
Thanks a ton Qwert, wouldn't have figured this out without your help. I would be playing on 1.4 no-check and be banned in short order.
