yeah, i guess im going to look tomorrow for a usb>serial adapter so see if that works. In that case my com port is just messed up for some kind of reason.

Have you tried reading in DOS? I find it to be far more reliable.

Worst case you can forget the probe and connect the R07 points manually with a bit of conductive material... Why gripe over a piece of equipment that is obviously hit or miss?
