this troll doesn't know what is going on. Please be sure to ignore.
If you want the correct directions, specifically as the makers of the disc said, follow what I said. Last time I'll respond to the troll here.

Troll how cute. Love being called a newb when i have literally hundreds of 360s under me. But i am not ignorant nor stubborn to admit when ive made a mistake. I am dedicated to what i do so i spent 13 dl disks using different burning apps and different speeds and on different layers. I have come to the cunclusion that it was alcohol 120% that was the problem not the layers. I do mean what i say that burnig at different speeds can make a difference and that clone cd seems to be the best to use. While i was testing i had some lite-on's that ive had success with and some that the disk would not work. No matter what i did the some that never worked, still did not work. I know that the disk i originally burnt that booted the "put this in a xbox..." ,even when i didnt have the autoboot feature on, never worked and the one that did not do that, woked. I assumed my original reply from deductive reasoning. I do want to say this, when i reply a SUGGESTION to someone and ask THEM to reply THEIR findings its for a reason, I am also trying to find out why one lite-on works while an identical one doesnt. Newb lol

I could have just avoided all this and gave you all a real piece of advice.....if you know what your doing that is.... and just patch the games iso's pfi and video sectors. Or just use 360WavesPatcher 1.2.2. Down side is youll most certainly be banned if you go on live.
This will be my last entry unless asked.
Peace .....

Oh almost forgot to mention to flash the drive back to 1.51 and patch wave 4 back to wave 3 if you do use the patcher

Fellas, let's stay on the issue shall we?
I'm happy to try burning the *.iso on both layers. Will do that today and give some feedback.
How ever, there is enough info on folks doing the one layer and that it works. So, the interesting thing here is that there seems to be more than one way to do this (if not all of the buzz has to do with pissing ones ego territory...). We should all try to help with correct info (in my world that means detailed checking every setting in ones burn-software, for example regarding layer settings. "Auto" in these settings is perhaps not clear enough).
If a dual layer *.iso works I'll be a happy camper. If not then there has to be other concrete reasons for why some LiteOn drives fail to boot properly - should be interesting for all the wonderful and competent individuals who help all of us limit MS profit...

Leave it up to us "newbies" to act civilized. But as i tried and tried no matter which way, and i tried many, no way to get the damn things to boot. The only way i know for sure is to go back to 1.51 and patch the games to wave 3.

Here is the promised update;
Nope - burning on both layers did not work either.
BUT;
I have used DVD Decrypter for many years, it has never failed me (as I said; no coasters). Trusted that setting the software to DVD and leaving the layer brake alone/empty would be enough when burning the activate.iso.
- NOT SO.
I trust info, when it comes in "volume" or multidude, so I went back to basics and followed the, by the masses, given instructions more to the letter:
Used ImageBurn, let it do it's thing on one layer and - tadaaa - it works. And it works on all titles I previously mentioned.
So for me it was the settings in DVD Decrypter that ghosted the activation disc... Tnx for listening.
Here's a tutorial by bigalan2k7:
*********************************************
These instructions were made using Imgburn!!!
PLEASE NOTE!!! DOES NOT BOOT UNSTEALTHED XBOX 1 BACKUPS!!!! I was really hoping it would....
1: You need your Activate.iso file! You can download it using the link above.
2: Once you have the activate.iso file, you wanna drag and drop or save it to your desktop.
3: Insert a DVD+R DL into your dvd burner.
4: Now open up Activate.iso with any burning software you use. (I.E. Imgburn, Clonecd, etc... I personally use Imgburn... )
5: Now in your burning program go into your write setting tab and make sure your layerbreak is set to the Calculate Optimal setting. Also check your booktype for DVD+R DL and make sure its on the DVD-ROM setting and that your write speed is at 2.4x.
6: Start Burn!
7: As soon as the burn starts a message will pop saying, "that the image is small enough for a regular DVD R, do you want to continue anyway?"
(You wanna choose yes because burned to a regular DVDR the Activate.iso wont work!!!)
8: Next another message will pop saying, "even though the image is small enough to fit into one layer its best to write in both layers, do you wanna go away from the norm and write in only one layer?" (Now I wanna stress...READ THIS MESSAGE CAREFULLY!!!!)
Choosing "Yes" will cause all data to be writing into the first layer.
Choosing "No" will cause data to be writing into both layers.
Choose "yes"
9: It will burn then finish...
10: Insert the Activate.iso disk into your xbox 360. It will read for a little longer than usual then finally it will say "Play DVD". Press "A" on your controller and a video should pop saying, "Play this disk in an xbox 360 console".
This is how you know you've burned the iso sucessfully!!
11: Now just eject the Activate.iso disk and insert your unstealthed, modified or Hybrid disk and it will load!!!
Thanks for listening!! I hope this helps some that were struggling like me...

I have one for ya.
I have a Sammy with 1.61 iX. Works fine booting wave 4 games, but when using the activate iso and a backup of L4D2 I get no love.
Now I know the activate iso and backup works because I use them on my Lite-on drives that are running 1.60 iX.
Any ideas? Could it be 1.61 iX? Could it be the drive failing?
Again both the L4D2 backup and activate disk work fine in 3 different lite-on drives running 1.60 iX.
EDIT: Well I feel like a fool. LOL
Just tried booting the 1:1 without the activate.iso and Bobs your uncle. It worked like a charm. I found a statement somewhere that said wave 4 PFI is the same as wave 5. Never new this just assumed new wave would mean the activate iso would be needed. Good to find wave 5 will run on 1.61 iX.

i know this is a n00b question and probably a stupid one but i am getting my drive flashed this weekend and i just wanted to know - does it increase the chances of RRoD? i have a Jasper LiteOn combo as i had mentioned earlier. i know flashing only involves the DVD drive and it shouldn't instigate an RRoD, but i want to be absolutely sure first...

RAAC;
Truth is you will never be "absolutely sure"...
RRoD has ocurred on consoles that have NOT been modded at all (have some friends that got hit), most common are the older boxes with the heat-issues. Look around and you will find extensive info on what can be done regarding RRoD.
Today, flashing your 360 and staying online means you are exposed. And the "risk", of RRoD, being banned or even just "logged for future banning" by MS, has most definately increased.
Modding equals risk, don't ever expect to be "sure".

well i don't go online with this one - ever. like it has never even had a cable touch that port. you don't get genuine games where i live (or have a decent enough connection to go to live in the first place) so i have to wait months for my friends to come back from their semesters abroad, which i don't always wanna do. however i don't wanna risk getting an RRoD either. i have bought enough of these damn things. can't afford another one. mine's a Jasper and i play i never play it for more than 2 hrs at a stretch (in a well ventilated room) so it should be fine, but my Xenon died on me under the same conditions so you never know. i just wanted to know if opening up the console increases chances of RRoD if you don't do it properly...

@RAAC
Absolutely not. Opening the 360 and flashing the drive have nothing to do with the infamous 3RROD. They are not even related. The 3RROD is mainly caused by excessive heat, bad soldering (so to speak) on the GPU chip, very little or no thermal paste(also instances were the protective film on a thermal pad was not removed), and the X-Clamps causing unnatural stress on the MOBO and chip.
So have at it, if you get a 3RROD it will not be because you opened your box or flashed the drive.
