I already own one xbox 360 that is not banned that I use to play legitimate games online and off. My plan is to purchase a banned xbox off ebay so that I can use it to play back up games offline - I don't care about online with this secondary console. So my question is: what is the best method for flashing your xbox's dvdfirmware? Are there different methods of flashing firmware for different model dvd drives? What tools will I need to disassemble the xbox and what website do you recommend for these tools? What is the best source for buying a cheap used xbox banned or not banned? Feel free to give me a new plan if you think it will be better for me. Please post any advice you wish, help me out.
Q: So my question is: what is the best method for flashing your xbox's dvdfirmware?
A: Getting a Maximus Gaming/Team Xecuter connectivity kit and connecting your 360 drive to computer so that you can use JungleFlasher to flash LT+1.1 to the drive
Q: What tools will I need to disassemble the xbox
A: Nothing besides a T10 Screwdriver and a Small Flathead screwdriver
Q: What is the best source for buying a cheap used xbox banned or not banned?
A: A Local console modding shop, Ebay or Craigslist
Would recommend you try and get a xbox with a Samsung drive, due to not supporting the new AP25 checks, plus they are really easy to flash!
I know your not going on live, but AP25 can stop you booting if your game isn't done correctly.
The cheapest solution to flash is to buy a Via 6421a SATA card (about £6 from ebay) so the expensive kits such as the Maximus or Team Xecuter kit arent really needed. Would always recommend this especially if your not doing loads of xboxs

Good luck.
I don't think I want a kit since I'm only doing one xbox and don't want to spend that much money. But do I really need a pci sata card? Can't I just plug in the dvd drive into the motherboard? And if I do need a card will anyone do?

No, you don't need a PCI SATA card, lol. That's only for older computers that don't have SATA onboard. Just look at your cable that goes to your comp's hard drive. Is it SATA or PATA? (google for picks of each cable.) Now, keep in mind, some onboard SATA controllers may not be compatible with flashing drives (or so I've heard). Just google for a SATA controller compatibility list and see if yours is there. Every one I've come across works fine.
A couple notes... you will need an SATA cable on the drive... so you'll need a spare one, or you'll need to borrow one from your comp's optical drive until you're done.
As far as powering the drive... you already have power-- your 360! Why waste money on something you already have? silly people.
note: your AV outputs on your 360 must be plugged into a TV in order for your 360 to stay on.
I've only dealt with benq drives, so check first to make sure it doesn't check anything if yours isn't.
