i recently got a copy of Alan Wake, made a backup, and tried to play it on my flashed 360.
i had the flashing done by somebody else. When i put it in, it asks for a update. is it okay if i update, and if i do, will it kill my softmod?
update what? the system from the disc, or the game from the internet? If you aren't connected to the internet, then it is updating from the disc... which means a system update, which could affect jtag systems (or capabilities), but it wouldn't bother a flashed dvd drive. so if his is jtagged, an it is a system update he could have serious issues if he installs it (in which case he would need to install a modified version of the firmware update, from what I understand).
ps: flashing with modified firmware is a softmod. soft means software. firmware is software, regardless of where it is (dvd drive, or elsewhere). There are no foreign physical devices (e.g. mod chip) involved during normal gameplay. Flashed 360 is also troublesome, as it is easy for someone to say flashed 360 and mean either jtagged (flashed 360 firmware) or flashed dvd drive firmware.
So, the second question is whether his softmod is from jtagging or a flashed dvd drive.
