I picked up a 2nd hand broken xbox the other day for cheap. Guy said the drive was giving the open disc error so easy fix i thought. Anyway got it home turned it on and the drive worked for about 5 mins before dying completely, wouldnt even open etc.
Went onto fleabay and thought i would order a new PCB board rather than replacing the complete drive ( Managed to get the drive key from old one).
Anyway i got said PCB board today and fitted it. Attached to xbox and it was working albeit not reading games etc due to no drive key. Went into JF and i couldnt get it to detect drive. Cue 4 hours later with me trying EVERYTHING and i still couldnt get it to detect. What i DID notice was that the PC would normally detect drive in BIOS but with this one it was giving error that the BIOS wasnt installed. Old pcb was detecting no probs at all so im assuming that there is a BIOS chip on the new PCB that is blank and therefore of no use? Does that sound about right or could it be something else?
The drive is a Hitachi with Rev 47 and the new PCB board is supposed to be the same. Any ideas?

Also, before trying to use JungleFlasher, have you tried putting it into ModeB to see if your PC would detect it?
Thanks for reply. No it wont play DVDs but it did play an audio disc which i found weird. Seller thinks it may be faulty board so has offered to send another.
Havent put drive into mode B as any Hitachi i have done before i have used JF to do so. Have also been using onboatrd Sata and have done over 50 drives with no probs but just incase i have ordered separate Sata card.
What do you think the PCB has to do with games that don't read? That's a laser issue, get back on ebay and buy a new laser....better yet a better drive. Hitachi's blow monkey balls
To dump a 47, I use portIO. Attach like normal with sata drivers disabled and dump. Sometimes, you need to reboot the pc with the drive on for it to dump. I hope you have a via 6421 card.

The reason i thought it was the PCB was that i couldnt get it recognised in BIOS or JF yet with the old PCB it was recognised instantly. I have always used onboard sata with no issues but i have ordered the 6421 card just to rule that out.
Who cares about what the BIOS sees. PortIO doesn't care. The 6421 VIA card works on all drives. If you have the keys, I would crap that drive and get a benQ or lite-on.
