Just revived my box from rrod, reflowed it and everything. Works great now. But I read that replacing the stock fans with whisper fans will improve the noise, and cooling as well as prolong the life of my newly revived 360.

Is this true? or am i okay just with the stock fans. It still seems to be running a little too hot for my liking with the stock ones.

I'm using the Whisper max which allows you to change between 5v and 12v power, I highly recommend getting it.. You can also change the LED's on it to the color of your choice, I changed mine from blue to orange to match the color scheme I have with my 360.

I have two Xbox 360 revived from RRoD and both are running with Whisper Max.
It is very loud on 12v, but it is more than a year past and no problems with the box so far.
I can recommend it as 25$ is not much to be safe.

Yes, I must warn you that it will sound like a jet engine but who cares so long it's cooling your 360 and pushing that hot air out..

I've gone though about 20-25 whisper fans. You can get them on ebay from my supplier.

http://www.customxboxshop.com

Usually when i order a fan it comes next day because it only has to travel 20 miles or so and he ships the same day.

You can also cut the fan mesh grill out to help cooling, just be careful not to bend the top because talismoons can bend a little bit and may not spin freely after this mod.

You can also add a 60mm fan in front of the cpu, though if you have the massive alluminum heatsink you need to modify it a bit for a 60mm fan to fit (i don't recommend it). You can also use the 1st gen cpu heatsink that makes everything fit better.

As for swaping out the leds in the talismoons it can be done with the regular ones, you just have to solder them in.

Here's my latest project

With the talismoon fan, the 60mm fan and the fan mesh cut the temps reach about 105F Max in an inclosed case (i still have to cut windows).

hmm im not too keen on the noise level though. Would I be able to get away with the regular whisper fan? apparently that's supposed to increase airflow by 58% so they say.

i have the regular whisper fan, and its louder than a stock fan but based on what elusiv1 said, i would guess its quieter than the max on 12v.

Yeah, about 7% quieter iirc. I Have one on my reflowed 360 just running from the 5v. It displaces plenty of air, and isn't any louder than the dvd drive.

i fitted the max to my 1st 360 after it rrod'd on me. it certainly does push through loasds more air but at a cost of your hearing lol. i could play a few games at the 'slow' setting but put something like dead space and it wouldn't even make it through the intro...

kick it into full power and everything would run perfectly but be prepared to annoy the f out of the rest of the family lol

Dont even think about how i do this 1 handed... just know i do and i can kick your ass at CoD, Gears, SF, VF .. get the picture *wink*
