Hi all,

I know this has been extremely difficult in the past but are there any new clearer cut ways of playing an avi file and displaying subtitles?

On your PC or on a disk on an Xbox 360? Don't think you?re in the right forums section unless you specifically want to play it on the 360.

If just playing on your PC, most universal media players have the option of importing subtitles, i.e. KM Player, VLC Player.

If you want to play the avi with subtitles on a dvd in your xbox/dvd player, then you can use ConvertXtoDVD to add the subtitles to the avi and convert to DVD files. Then you can just burn with either ImgBurn or Nero.

Yeah, I was lite on the details - my question is regarding playing an .avi file on a flash drive through the xbox 360. I watch a lot of shows this way but haven't been able to display subtitles during certain shows, movies, etc.

Is there a software to re-encode .avi files with their subtitle tracks i.e. hard code them in the file so they will display automatically since the xbox 360 doesn't allow the ability to enable .srt files ?

The Xbox 360 does not support subtitles for divx yet. To add to the bad news, in order to get your subtitles on the movie, you will have to hardcode them into the movie, which would require you to re-encode the movie and lose quality (besides being a pain).

It kinda sounds like you expected this as the answer..
