Best Firmware for non-live xbox

Just a simple question as to what is the best firmware for an xbox which I do not plan on going on xbox live with. I have a hitachi drive if that makes any difference and have loads of original xbox backups on single layer dvd. I've heard the xtreme firmware can play these backups where the iso was created with qwix etc. or will I need to alter the discs again? What version of this will I need and will it play all my 360 backups?

cant really do anything with the Hitachi, i believe 1.51 is the latest for the Hitachi
