Hi everyone,
First off, I'm a noob and this is my first post, BUT... I have been spending HOURS on this with lots of research, tut reading, etc. So please don't write me off! :D I'm a smart guy, and I don't give up easily, and I will listen to everything you say.
Preamble:
I bought the Blaster CK3, and followed the excellent install instructions. My large fingers had trouble with the tiny two-pin leads, but I got 'em in. Now, the wrinkle is that I have the Lite-on 74850c drive, so I've got the blaster installed to the point that the xBox is still open, the drive is removed from the xBox and flipped upside down with the bottom plate off to expose the 707 register for eventual probing. The CK3 is wired up according to all the instructions, but currently hanging off the side of the xBox since it's open.
I've got the USB connected to my computer, and I've got the SATA cable connected to one of my onboard SATA ports, both hooked up to the front of the Blaster CK3..
The other wrinkle, now, is that I'm using a Mac Pro. No, WAIT! Don't GO! :p Stick with me... I've got Win XP SP3 installed on the Mac, and am booting the machine natively into Windows. The SATA chipset is an Intel ESB2/3100 controller, but I don't have it running in AHCI mode. I've got it running the legacy drivers in Windows XP SP3 32 bit. The Blaster CK3 SATA port is connected to the second hard drive bay SATA connector on the Mac Pro's motherboard. I'm booting windows off a hard drive connected to the third hard drive bay. Bays 1 and 4 are empty.
Okay, enough preamble. Here's what I've done so far, and here is the trouble I'm running into:
1) xbox and computer powered off.
2) power on the xbox. The Blaster CK3 turns green and the probe blue. The Blaster's switches are set to PC, Mode Off, Power On.
3) Press eject on the Blaster (sticks down, depressed). The Lite-on drive ejects. I yank the power out of the back of the Lite-on drive. Push the drawer closed halfway. Press eject on the Blaster (pops up, unpressed), and reconnect power to the Lite-on drive. The tray stays half open. I'm assuming it is now in vendor mode...
4) Boot the Mac Pro up into Windows XP and open up JungleFlasher 1.78 beta. JF shows the Blaster CK3 available on a COM port, detected as Prolific USB to serial. Great. JF also shows portio32.sys installed and loaded. Now, here's the problem: under portIO, it detects a total of 4 ports. From experience, I have figured out that it is detecting only the first two SATA hard drive bay connectors, and then strangely NOT the last two connectors, but rather the two IDE/PATA connectors to which my DVD-RW drives are connected. Weird. But, whatever. It's still recognizing two SATA ports, including the one into which the Blaster CK3 is (supposedly) connecting the Lite-on drive.
5) When I select each of the four ports under portIO to see what is attached, the Lite-on drive does not show up. It just says "No drive detected" in JF.
So I guess my question is, what on earth do I need to do to get the Lite-on drive detected on the SATA bus?? I assume portio32 is working fine because JF says it's running, and two of my SATA ports are recognized and listed. However, while JF can detect and identify any hard drives I connect to these two ports, it will not detect the Lite-on on either one of them. BTW, the first one is listed as Primary Master, and the second one is listed as Secondary Master. But again, neither of them will show the Lite-on in JF, though they will recognize and identify hard drives.
So I would assume it's not a problem with portio32 and my SATA ports? Is it a problem with the Lite-on drive? Does it have to be in vendor mode to be recognized by JF? Am I doing something wrong to get it into vendor mode? Am I using the Blaster CK3 incorrectly somehow to pass the SATA through from the Lite-on to the motherboard? Ack!!
I find it strange that the two PATA DVD drives are showing up in JF under PortIO, don't you?? They are not connected to SATA.
If it helps anyone figure it out, I have also tried getting the drive recognized by connecting it directly to the Mac Pro's SATA bay instead of through the Blaster CK3, and powering it directly off the xBox using the original power lead (instead of the Blaster's break-out cable). Using this method, I place the Lite-on into vendor mode (I think) by using the eject button on the xBox instead of on the Blaster. Then following all my usual steps, when I get to JF, the weird thing is sometimes it doesn't show "Drive not detected" but it will show one or two random characters in the vendor/firmware fields, but then often when I refresh the portio fields, it will then say "Drive not detected". I can't get ANYTHING except "Drive not detected" when I go entirely through the Blaster CK3's SATA port.
What now?? :(
I don't think I can even use a VIA 6421 card, since it seems they are all PCI? And my Mac Pro is PCI-e.
HELP!!!
