I will be getting my new console and I want it on my network but want to block it from Live. Is there certain ports or IP's that i have to block on my router to do this. The only reason I want to do this is to use media center.
Forget blocking ports. The easiest (and guaranteed) way to prevent your console from accessing the internet is to block the MAC address for the console. This way, you can still assign it an internal IP, but the machine itself will be prohibited from going out to the internet. Most routers have an option to block MACs.
You can get the MAC for the console by going into the network setup from the dashboard.

True. Assuming you don't have resourceful children, that can go back in and re-enable it. Granted they could do that with a MAC setting too, but that would be a bit more complicated.

with the family settings, you have to put in a password to get to the 'edit' menu. so they wouldnt be able to unless they could figure out the pass.
