blown a mosfet, no power to mobo!!!

i jsut tried wiring up some leds and adding the 12v fan mod to my falcon mobo, as i switched it on, it worked for around 10 seconds then clicked and wont power, i soldered onto the mosfet q9d3 on the right hand side of the board just up from the green coil thingy. all the xbox does is bring the power light on, the psu goes orange then red then orange after a tiny red flash, no power to fans or leds nor will the dvd drive eject, anybody help me out here? i dont know if its flashing red ring as i dont have any red lights since changing them over, just seems to of died, i can try get hold of a multimeter to check the mosfet i soldered to, but what votage should come from it and the rest? help will be grately appreciated as its my baby and i was just in the middle of glitch modding it!! :(

iv confirmed i have a 5v inside the xbox near the psu even thjo the supply is orange, so its something to do with the 12v line running into the box, any1 point me in the right direction pls

IF the mosfet is blown, you're screwed. Good luck even getting it off the board to replace.

unlucky me then, iv ordered 2 so when they come il try replace the one i soldered onto, see if it works, worth a try either way then. thanks

I have yet to see one removed to be replaced without destroying the board but good luck

ive read to use a heat gun to remove it after snipping the legs, im gonna giv it a go still but looks to me like i need to do more research b4 soldering onto anything! :( nd get a new box

another question is, does anybody know if it will be the mosfet i soldered onto that will of blown or if some different ones will of gone too? im getting a multimeter today but also read i have to remover the mosfet to test it properly is this true??

well iv tested the best i could and found that most of the mosfets have the same reading but one i cant get anything out of, wether reading from pin 2.3 or 1.2 source and drain or whatever it is, so i guess that one wants replacing, also i got 2 that read alot higher than the rest? anybody know why they read more??
i got myself a new box now like but would still like to repair my baby as iv done alot of mods and repairs to this box and it seemed un-killable, lol

Like i said, replacing mosfets is a waste of time and insanely hard. Time to toss it man.

i normally just piggy-back them on top of the old one, saves taking it off the board.

didnt think of that would it still work ok tho?? would i just solder the 2 legs down and join the drain to drain on the rear of the chips? thanks for the info iv got that page saved for the process m8. :) even if it just works to flog it on cheap to some1? lol

abit of a bump, but just letting people know iv just fixed my 0001 console by replacing a mosfet on the board, it was a 12v short, il post how i did it incase anybody else has the same problem,
i tried to piggyback the mosfet as quoted by peluynati and it didnt work, i had to remove it from the board, this was difficult, i did the legs first and luckily for me the top of the chip came off and left the bottom attached to the board, so i just soldered it directly on top of that piece :) it was the chip Q9E1 located on the right hand side of a falcon board, i used a NTD60N02RG in replacement for 7324813NHG. now back to getting this thing glithed :) thanks
