My friend has an older Xbox 360 system that has a Hitachi-LG drive. It has gone bad and we were looking for a replacement. I have heard the BenQ ones are better, but would they work in the console?
Absolutely. You just have to modify the firmware in the BenQ with the same drive key that is on the Hitachi, and brainwash it that it is a Hitachi, not a BenQ. This is very easy to do using Jungle Flasher.
However, if your friend's drive bricked and it won't open... you are sort of screwed.
Naw the drive is still working, It just doesnt read discs often and Ive tried using lens cleaners. So is it recommended that I get the BenQ version then?
Alright, Well Thank you for your help. I have a Via 6421 PCI card as well, If thats needed. Would you mind helping me out with the flashing when I get the new drive?
There are some really great tutorials here about how to use Jungle Flasher to flash your DVD drive. Those will tell you more than I could. But if you have some questions after reading that, just post here and I'll be happy to help.
