I don't know if this has been mentioned already, but the following drives allow you to burn full XGD3 games to disc as standard, so you don't need to flash with Burner Max: -

Sony Optiarc AD-5280S-CB-PLUS
Sony Optiarc AD-5280S-CB-ROBOT

It has to be either of those models. The regular 5280S does not work.

The PLUS model is $34.99 on NewEgg: -

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.a...18073&Tpk=5280s

The ROBOT version is actually an archival/duplication burner and I can't find anywhere that sells it, but it's probably quite expensive.

This works because these drives support DVD+R DL overburning with the stock firmware. Other drives don't, which is why Burner Max was needed to enable it.

So there you go, you no longer have to go on eBay and pay way over the top for an iHAS B model drive.

Thanks for sharing this useful info! RIARA is right, this will probably be talked about a lot, and a lot of people will benefit from this. As requested, please put this in your tutorials.

No worries gents. I will add a link to this thread to the pinned thread.

Lightning UK (ImgBurn's creator) did some tests with overburning DVD+R DL media and with Verbatim discs the results were very good when it came to the KProbe scans - nice low error rates. The results with other media were hit and miss though, so as always, the best advice is to stick to Verbs, especially with one of these drives as there's unlikely to be any workarounds for those that use cheap discs.

Here's the KProbe result for a 360 game burned at 8X on a Verbatim MKM-003-00: -

That's better than most people are getting burning them at 4X with an iHAS. As always though, YMMV.

BTW, if you're wondering why it says iHAS 624 B at the top of that test result, it's because you have to use a Lite-On drive to use KProbe. The disc was burned on a Sony Optiarc drive, then tested via KProbe using a Lite-On drive.

Great news.I already have a IHAS burner but interested in having a backup capable of doing the same if not a better job than with burnermax compatable drives. However ive been trying to find the exact models listed that will either ship to the uk or are uk sites.I cannot for love nor money find those models anywhere even on the official sony website.People have been talking about these drives recently via other forums, even trying to use the base model flashed with the listed drives firmware, but the overburn which is needed does not seem to work and there is currently no way of changing the bootcode. If anyone else can do some homework to find a supplier of these drives within the uk please provide links.Funksoulb many thanks for the headsup.

Managed to find the first of the 2 drives of all places Amazon.Although its a .com for everyone outside The States you cannot have it shipped internationally as ive just tried to add via my amazon account. The price equates to around £22 but who knows when they are going to be available and at what additional costs to european buyers. Here is the link anyhow http://www.amazon.com/Sony-Optiarc-Spee...data/B0086ZU8XK

Yeah, neither NewEgg nor Amazon will ship one of these to the UK. I've ordered 2 from Amazon US and had them shipped to a friend in the US who is then going to send them on to me.

@infam0us - Nice find on the ROBOT model. The reviews on that site seem fake though. 2 of the 3 reviews mention Blu-Ray compatibility, but it doesn't even have it.

I'd be interested in getting the PLUS model myself if it can burn that quality at 8x. Only problem is as already mentioned they don't ship to europe.

I've got 2 on the way from the US (and no, I don't want to sell one :P). It cost me £49 to buy both drives and have them shipped to a friend in America, then shipping from his place to the UK was £15. Not too bad really. I'll let you know what they're like when they turn up.

Try this one for size.If you cannot get those drives or be as lucky as Funksoulb these drives are all revision B and are all crossflashable to 124b rev .Burn tests so far indicate no fails with burnermax firmware and verbatims.Current price for these drives are £30 inc delivery. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/DH-24ABS-Rev-...id=426993655095 Hope this helps guys as the drives listed on the original post are pretty hard to find in the uk.

Just tried this out imgburn started burning the game without asking to truncate. I tried with a cheap Ridata disc so i'll see what kprobe says when it's done.

Just tried the new Payload tool without flashing a DH-24ABS (Rev B) bought for £20.Using a laptop win 7 via sata-usb and molex psu.Verbs 003's,imgBurn with opc and Smartburn enabled only, burning a backup xgd3.Ran through Kprobe x4 using a IHas 124(b).Ive shortened the results as follows.

Errors : 0
PI Max : 42
PI Average : 1.80
PI Total : 55976
PIF Max : 3
PIF Average : 0.09
PIF Total : 2686

Far better results than my burnermax flashed ihas 124b.This piece of software is amazing, cheaper drives that are compatable no saving and dumping .Bin files or crossflashing.there is no excuses now for anyone to ask stupid questions about truncating discs.

I got my Sony Optiarc AD-5280S-CB-PLUS drives and they work great. Obviously there is less need for these drives now that that payload tool was released, but if you're in the market for a new drive anyway it's worth getting one of these so you can burn all 360 games (including XGD3) just like you would burn any other disc - no flashing or other tools required.

You asked me this in PM and I told you that I use the default settings.

All I can tell you is - I use the default settings. I use MKM-003 discs and burn at 4X. Every game I've burned has worked fine. If you want Kprobe scans, look on the ImgBurn forums, as Lighting UK has done some tests and posted the results.

This is very true. But, then they go through twenty coasters and come here, wondering why their truncated games burned on Optical Quantum discs aren't working. LOL! They don't want to buy new drives, they don't want to invest in xkeys. They just want to keep buying cheap discs, trunacting, and cutting corners and in the end, it probably ends up costing them more money than an xkey would have in the first place. LOL!
