Hi! I´ve just ordered a new 360, because my old one has given up on me one too many times by now. But beeing a launch-day console, i´ll tell you, it´s been a trooper! but sadly, the last year or so i´ts been prone to freezes, and the all so appreciated three red lights every now and again. So, some new blood it is!

I chose the "Arcade" version, because it´s cheap, and I allready own all the accessories i need, and it has HDMI. I´ve understood that all i can hope to get is a Lite-On drive, right? But they´re easily flashed nowadays, right? (not really a question, as i´ll read up on it myself at a later time)

The real question is, how will I have to modify my hardware? On the 360 I have now I´ve replaced the x-clamps, raised the DVD-drive, added fans to the GPU and CPU, and modded the fan-shroud. And it has served me well.
I´m guessing that the heatsinks will have to be properly mounted?
MS still uses the awful x-clamps, right?

I did search the forum for similar threads, with no real luck, since there´s no one question I´m asking, I´m more looking for recommendations as to what to do with a brand-spanking-new Xbox 360 to ensure it gets an as long life as possible.

Thanks, and peace!

Peace

No, I´m not..
Wow, that´s one crappy answer, do they pay you to say this, these "premodders"?

I think he was just trying to give you the quickest, easiest way. It's probably the route he took.

Other than flashing the drive, you shouldn't NEED to do anything to it, as newer boxes seem to run excellently.

More than likely you'll end up with a Lite-On 7xxxx. They are easy as cake once you read up on them. Very slight possibility of a Lite-On 83850, which I haven't done yet, but don't seem too problematic from what I've read so far.

A "refreshing" statement. Not something we hear very often around here from new posters.

Good luck flashing.

Thank you! Very informative and thorough.
The more i read about these Lite-on´s, the more they seem to be the best drives to date. And it´s even better news that the heat distribution, and whatever made the "x-clamps" suck, has been improved!

And i´m actually not as new a member, my posts may be few and far between, but most things worth saying get said way to often, so I generally read more than i write.

Thanks again

i have a liteon new revision xbox, I bought from game. (not from a premodder, wouldn't pay someone else to do something so simple). At first I noticed it was getting very hot underneath so I raised it up onto a wire rack. I would recomend this as a cheap alternative to other cooling systems. I have my xbox running 12 hours a day! not a single problem so far.
