I'm a PS3 owner and lately I felt that I have been missing some great titles that came out on Xbox 360 console .. so I'm planning to get one but I have a problem that here we only have the pirated systems which means there are mod chips in them so I was wondering if I bought only Legal copies of games can I log on to Xbox live and use it's services and will I be able to play online even though if my console has a mod chip in it .. ?
You always run the chance of being banned. The best thing would be to buy a new arcade, I think they are only $150 or the 360s with 4gb internal memory is only another fifty bucks. Then go from there. And how do you only have modded consoles where you are?

Are you sure your consoles are not flashed with firmware instead of having modchips in them? Modchips are rare and pretty useless as far as the xbox 360 is concerned...so most people opt have have modified firmware written to their dvd drives. If the dvd drives are flashed with Ixtreme Lite Touch firmware, then they are currently considered to be safe for xbox live use...in which case, you're good. If your console is really modchipped, there is no way of telling whether or not the console will be safe to use on live.
I would suggest you see a reputable local modder who can see what is going on with your consoles. It shouldn't cost more than a few bucks for him to check through and see if you're "xbox live safe"...and if you're not, probably charge you around 30 bucks to flash your dvd drive so that you are. If he tells you that you do have a modchip in there, then, he will present to you what options you have to become "xbox live safe."
"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."
@ffocus06: I live in Palestine ((probably you haven't heard of it)) so basically there is laws against piracy here and since console gamers are considered rare you can't find Legal consoles of course except for PS3 and if the news were true that it has been hacked soon you won't find a legal PS3 console .. !!

@MrGreaser: honestly I don't know wither it's modded or if it's flashed the shop where I?m intending to get it from kind of stupid so I?ll ask around, but from what I understood from your post that if it was flashed then it's safe to go online if I?m using legal games.

Possibly being banned from xbox live service. Even if you get banned, your system will still play games, but you can't login to xbox live to play against other people.
