Inserted into USB slot, turned on the power, and I did not get prompted for the update
Is there a trick I am not doing, or is my USB stick not compatible ?
if your xbox is banned you can try what snickle has said or put your hdd into an unbaanned xbox update from there and put your hdd back into your console and you will get the update.
thats what i did and it worked first time.

so flash to ofw/ update your xbox 360 /then flash to lt 1.1.

No you don't need to upgrade to install this update.

You don't need to, it's just recomended by c4 for live users, basically it's just c4 covering himself when the ban wave comes.
Also if you read psycore's post properly you will see that he isn't on LT anyway.
