So my brother recently bought a "new" 360 that he wanted me to flash. It's a 74850c. The probe I used to have broke, so he bought one from Ebay. Now I've gotten the keys off of 74850's in the past with no problems, so I figured once the probe arrived it would be the same. No dice. I spent the last hour trying to get the key to this drive. I get "Bad Serial Data" every single time I try to get the key. I've tried everything. Drive closed, half open, light on the CK3 red and blue, probing 708 and 709 in addition to 707, nothing. I even tried the PhatKey method. It failed of course. I'm wondering if it's the probe he bought. It shows up in JF as Prolific USB to Serial. I can't remember off the top of my head what my old probe came up as in JF, but this probe looks exactly like the one I used to have (which I bought with my old connectivity kit). The probe originally didn't show up in my drivers, but I downloaded some drivers from Team Xecuter and it showed up, so I had high hopes. This is my current setup, BTW.

My only guess is the probe is the culprit. I don't want him to have to spend another $25+ on a real Team Xecuter probe, so I'm seeing if you guys have any ideas first.
Try PMT Hack . Check the videos for the same. Much safer and easier to perform if you can get a spare DVD Power cable to modify and create a homemade PMT probe.Doesn't require trace cuts and if you are not on 13xxx series dash then you can use JF 1.82 or lower but if the dash is updated to 13146 or 13599 the use JF 1.83 onwards.I think JF 1.87 is the latest.

The drive wasn't flashed before, so I should be able to get the key. I'm looking into the Lizard, but I don't flash enough 360's at this point to justify spending $100+.
