Can u switch xbox 360 dvd drives from other xbox 360's?

mean can i take a 360 drive from one and swap it in mine? cause i tried this but the dvd drive that i swap never plays games it only says play dvd yet the dvd drive plays games when its connected to the original motherboard? doesnt make sense?

The reason you are having trouble is that each DVD drive is paired with the mobo on the 360 by a software 'key' so the xbox knows that the second drive isn't the one it came with.

What you have to do is obtain the key from the original drive and 'spoof' it into the second drive. All this can be found in the multiple tutorials on this site and all across the net if you google it properly.

MY xbox 360 came with a benq VAD6038, its giving a lot of disc errors. So can i switch with a toshiba TS-H943, or do i have to get a benq VAD6038.

try searching this site for 'spoofing' drives as this is the term for swapping out 360 dvd drives or try http://forums.afterdawn.com/thread_view.cfm/761056 or the JF tutorial is a good source of info.

In answer to your question you can pretty much swap any drive with another 360 drive as long as you have the DVD key from the original drive saved.

alright thx ...i will need a sata card to right ?? cause its like falshing....i bought one on ebay and it never detects my drive and i looked at everything on this site to figure out why but nothing seemed to work but apparently a lot of ppl are having problems with the hitachi 0078 which is mine...thx though if i figure out how to get my drive to read i will try it out. :)
