I'm considering buying a bunch of RROD Xboxs and fixing them to resell. I've fixed a couple myself by reflowing along with using the Team Xecuter RROD kit. Being that the kit is pricey ($25) I was wondering if anyone has had repeated success with other kits. Anybody come across cheaper kits that work?

So for each Xbox I'll need 8 M5 screws and 16 M5 washers (8 nylon and 8 steel)? Are these the washers and screws that are used in the Team Xecuter kit?

Just to be sure, what thickness should each washer be? And how long should the bolts be that I'm attaching to the heatsinks? Should the bolts be a certain thread pattern?

1mm for washer thickness

as long as you get m5 screws the thread will be correct

Cant remember the exact length of the screws.

10-12mm m5 screws will work out...the longer 12mm screws can bend the fins on the gpu heatsink, so you can slightly rebend them back into place if you want to. I use stainless steel, cheese head screws because they are strong, non-corrosive, and have enough room to fit in the case without flexing the board.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

BTW, don't buy a bundle of broken xbox's as the odds are that someone else has tried to fix them. Purchase them separately.

I'll do that. Thanks for the help everyone I think I'm good now unless someone else has some words of wisdom for me.

I'd spend the money and get it reballed. My guy reballs pretty cheap, but I only do that when the box is a good jtag console.
