Advantages of Flashing:
Cheaper
Easily Upgraded
No Soldering

Advantages of Chipping:
None that I can think of.

One potential advantage of chipping -- if MS did somehow improve their mechanisms for detecting flashed drives, which is still in much doubt, it may now be safer for online play.

$38 on new discs -- Check
$15 on burn after burn that showed as a DVD -- Check
$11 on new laser -- Check
$28 on new multimeter -- Check

Not really true. Since it's being proved it's not the firmware of getting people banned.

no one uses chips and the ones that exist have a million wires. Oh and it's not going to help in the banning process

Heh... where in my post did I say that modded firmware is for sure detectable? I said specifically that is in much doubt still and the advantage was merely a 'potential' one. But okay.
