CK3 a must for Lite-On?

I was following the Jungle Flasher guide for '74850C LITE-ON' drive. It said this drive requires the CK3 kit, but I read on another forum that you can do without if you use this product: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16815124022

Someone even said on newegg comment "no need 4 a conectivity kit with this sata pci card plus its only 9.99 u cant beat that!!!!!!" but not sure if they meant that in general or for samsung only because as far as I know Samsung doesn't even need CK kit?

Can someone please confirm this?

hello,

if you want to flash a Lite-on, then a probe and connectivitykit are a must .. ie. the probe is used to extract the key of the drive and the connectivitykit to connect the drive to a Molex cable of the PC.

dred05 is right you need a probe for the 7 series lite on drive and the CK3 makes the 8 series lite on easier to flash due to the amount of ejecting and powering of the DVD you have to do :)

Also the CK3 makes flashing any drive a dream as there is no buggering about with power cables whilst your 360 is in full flow with no protection from the elements :(

Making your own key-extracting spear isn't hard to do, if you are so inclined. I personally use a home-made one. It won't be as pretty, but it will most certainly be cheaper and faster.

Could any one tell me how do tell which version of lite on i have without opening console .If i have a 8 series then i wont need to buy the probe.Please help

No, it is not about being scared .Its just that if it a 8 series lite on i can do it myself but 7 series lite on requires you to have probe which i prefer getting done by some one

There is no way to tell without opening. TBH, i find the 7 series easier to flash. Just build yourself a probe!
