So i'm at college and i can't download torrents because of the firewall. I have tried the basic stuff like using the link and changing the file but Utorrent still won't start downloading it, any ideas. I also would like to say i have the modem downstairs in the house. I'm sorry if someone thinks it's the wrong forum. Im downloading the Iso files because i want the 360 games as iso's, so it is as related as any other category on AD

I have yet to see a firewall that can block utorrent. As stated above you can change the ports.

I'm in the same situation. I have a laptop that I take to university, and I want to download within the actual university.
There isn't a proper useable wired network within the university itself, but there is a wireless one which you have to sign onto using your student username and password, so that's a no go.
There are also computer rooms, that use a wired ethernet connection but if I pull the cable out and put it in my laptop then I can't even obtain a IP address..
Any ideas guys before this gets moved out of the 360 forum?

Would have a look in network connection / network and sharing centre to see what IP/subnet the computer is statically assigned then copy that setup to your lappy.
Might work

Assumed that they would have locked the control panel down on the main server through group policy but haven't tried. Will do.

You could also run the "ipconfig" command from the command prompt.

Could do.. Wouldn't it cause a IP conflict?

ipconfig just reports to you what the current IP address of the network adapter is, so no, it won't cause a conflict.
So if you run ipconfig on the wired computer, you can then attempt to copy that info to your laptop if you wire it in.
If it still won't work, clone the MAC address of your ethernet adapter to that of a known-working PC.
If that still doesn't work, you are sort of screwed unless you jack somebody's password or something.
Speaking completely hypothetically, if the wireless connection isn't encrypted, and sometimes even if it is, 'sniffing' the data going through the airways isn't very difficult. Not that I would ever advise such a thing, of course.

My wireless adapter doesn't support "sniffing" to the extent of actually helping a lot.
Cloning the MAC address of a ethernet port.. Interesting. Is there a easy way to do this?

download the ISOs from rapidshare or megaupload, they are much faster but you have to pay and it is worth it

You can change some right from the advanced properties tab of the network adapter in Windows. If yours doesn't support that, there is software out there to do it. Sorry, I don't know any to recommend off the top of my head, but I have done it before.

Have you tried just change the subnet & IP? Most networks dont have mac address filtering, ive worked for 4 diff Major ISP's and non of them do it. Infact, ive never seem a network that does.

by changing ports you simply mean taking the data wire and moving it into a different ethernet hole?

I agree that MAC address filtering is pretty rare. The only reason I would suspect MAC addy filtering is due to the fact that the computers are lab computers in a university environment.
I have actually seen MAC address filtering "in the wild" before, though. There is a local fiber ISP that does it. For what reason, I do not know...
