just a quick question. I've put an ISO on disc and it works so I just wanna reduce the space its taking up on my computer, but dont want to delete just yet in case I need to re-burn it.
Would you recommend zipping it to .rar? Or will the compression affect the quality if I ever come to unzipping it?

thanks guys. would this be true of it if I transfer the .rar over to a portable HDD? or would it be better to transfer the unrar file over to HDD, then compress it?

I ask all these questions as I seem to remember compressing a large working file once then un.rar'd it at a later date and it was corrupt

There is absolutely no use in compressing it, because you won't save any space. The rar file will have the exact same size as the iso file.

Xbox 360: Slim untouched with a faked 320 GB harddrive for XBL, phat with LT 3.0, played Halo early, so going on live would be an instand ban, also with a faked 320 GB harddrive
PS3: Untouched 160 GB Slim, 60 GB Fat with latest Rogero and 160 GB internal harddrive.
PSVita: hardly ever play it
GameCube: Black with a Viper chip installed. With gameboy player. Trying to get a Wavebird controller.

as i stated, i compressed a wii iso from 4.37 gig to 1. something gig, but dont listen to me, i was only trying to help, Wii iso, DVD iso, Xbox 360 iso all can be compressed. If you d/l a xbox 360 game they normally come thru as rar files, you extract them and get the image, the image is bigger than the rar files you downloaded. They are compressed and they do open up the bigger image

both tongs & eisherz are correct, amount of compression will be determined by file type your attempting to compress some as toings...(lol..how did that happen :p) has stated compress well others won't,my personal opinion on the subject is leave as iso & get larger hdd's if space is an issue, compression also makes data recovery longer & more difficult than uncompressed data

Good advice i always keep the iso as its a " true image" i only compressed it as a test. if you can keep the iso its always better, hence why i have at least 8tb between my ps3, xk3y and dvds. but isos can be be win rarred

Actually that is due to the structure of WII and Gamecube games. The game you have is only 1.41 Gig in size, for WII or Gamecube the publishers add scrap data to fill the DVD. This scrap data can be compressed (or even removed, but then it has to be readded in order to burn the game), the game itself can't. There were some Gamecube games that could be compressed down to 30 MB.

A lot of the games I've RAR'd came in at around 6.5 Gigs (give or take). I'm guessing it's because all games are padded with "zeroes" to make them 7.05GB, 7.29GB or 8.13GB (depending on the game's wave). Plants vs Zombies is only around 400-500MB of game data, and close to 6GB of padding (if I remember correctly).

Just like all single layer Wii games are 4.37GB (someone else mentioned Wii), but you can scrub them to get rid of the padding for storage. A disc may be 1GB of data and 3.37GB of padding for a total of 4.37GB, which makes it playable.

Side Note: I don't RAR games anymore, but when I did, I'd split them, but I don't think it makes a difference.

I know about the wii being filled with nothing just to fill that disk up, wii scrubber takes them away and other programmes, but as i say you can still compress an image (iso) and you will see some difference in size, whether it be a dvd, cd, game ETC
