OK. I got 3 boxes to update to LT+1.92.

I had my teenage daughter to update the dashboards via USB.

She asks why the consoles won't play burned discs anymore.

I explain to her that the update flashes the drives to stock firmware and that now I have to flash modded firmware to the drives.

Maybe a good 15 minutes later she came back downstairs and said (exact words) "Can't you remove the stock flasher from the USB updater and put in an iXtreme flasher to make the flashing much faster?"

I told her I wasnt smart enough for that, but at the same time I'm thinking to myself damn that sounds do-able. I'm still trying to figure out how the hell she came up with that idea.

Anyway, what do you guys think? Is it do-able?
I'm guessing there's a "flasher" in the update.
I'm guessing there is "firmware" in the update.
Could the update's firmware be replaced with iXtreme firmware to make the update flash modded firmware while updating the console?

i asked the very same question in #fw and got flamed, but as well i do not see why this is not a valuable question, maybe it comes down to the fact that if it was that easy the market would be gone for add-on devices, and flashing devices i.e. usbpro?

It's all in the update. Some one would have to find where it's at and remove it. Could be as simple as a hex editor but I doubt it

i think if a man is smart enough to figure out a way to manipulate the firmware to do what he wants it to do, he surely can figure out what in that update is re-writing drive, what do you think?

Surely the update will be signed by m$ so if you mod the file, it wont boot the updater? Isnt this the very reason we cannot modify ISO's on flashed box's but we can on JTAG which allows unsigned code?

That's my thought too. It's all in the update. Everything that's needed is in there already. I doubt it would be easy either.

I've seen modded ISOs.
Chun-Li & Cammy naked on a modded SF4 ISO.
Insanely fast cars and other stuff on a modded GTA4 ISO.
Others that I cant think of at the moment.

I'm assuming that after the mod is done, the ISO is re-hashed/re-signed, similar to how gamesaves & DLC can be re-signed.

I'm just saying that I think it can be done. I'm not saying it's easy. I'm not saying that I can do it because there is no way in hell I could.

More times than not, "flame-age" comes from how a question is worded, not necessarily the the subject (unless that question is ridiculously stupid).

And it usually comes from nerds on a forum.
From what I see, this forum is comprised of geeks, not nerds.

Nerd - an intelligent but single-minded person obsessed with a nonsocial hobby or pursuit: a computer nerd.
Geek - a computer expert or enthusiast (a term of pride as self-reference, but often considered offensive when used by outsiders.)
