I have been researching this for days. I have modded drives before but never a lite-on. I have ordered a LT Clip w/ LT switch, and the new connectivity kit (pro). What i am trying to figure out is even though i have all this other stuff do i need a probe?

Assuming that the connectivity kit is an Xecuter CK3 (since you ordered an LT Clip).
If so, my advice would be to cancel the LT Clip order and get a Probe II instead.

Why? Because you have to make the same cuts on the circuit board to use either (when doing a full dump). But the Probe II can be used repeatedly (you plan on doing others in the very near future, right?).

You don't need both the Probe II and LT Clip.

But with the Clip you don't need to solder.

yea that's my dilemma rite now. I got the lt clip so I won't have to solder. I kno that I am going to have to cut traces. So my only main problem is I don't want the laser to burn up in the drive if I don't use the lt clip. btw its too late to cancel this lt clip I just ordered.

I'm not sure about that. You still have to make the cuts, so how are the cuts being put back?

The clip is adhered in place. There are points on the clip which make contact with the traces that are cleaned off and leds on the clip which indicate if it's making good contact or not.

ah nice! I'll stick to soldering. I'm cheap.

I would assume the clip can be reused?

Yeah, same here. I use a homemade switch. The clip could be reused. But of course that would mean resoldering the traces once the clip is removed.

yeah I am trying my best to avoid the soldering. that's why I ordered the LT Clip in the first place. I guess I will have to order the probe next. not really sure how much solder equipment cost I will have to do my research on that. not to mention learning how to solder too. so my understanding from you guys is that I am going to have to have the probe for all lite on drives regardless of solder or lt clip?

Everybody's so afraid of soldering. If you can cut the trace correctly, then a small solder joint to connect them back together is a piece of cake.

Hell, just do what my son did when he couldn't get into my tool room. He simply laid a piece of stripped wire on the traces an used transparent tape to secure it down, re-connecting the traces.

lol I don't know about the wire thing. I already have a LT clip.. I mite just get a solder gun it would be a lot cheaper... I could just use the LT Clip as a tester to make sure the trace cuts are dne right... so what hapens if the trace cuts are done wrong?
