Hey guys, I want to purchase an Xbox 360 to hack. I already have an Xbox 360 Elite which I never bothered hacking but after hearing about the 'ban-wave' on Xbox Live in regards to people playing Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 online with a hacked drive I decided I don't want to hack that console, I'd rather just use it online and buy another console for all my hacking and homebrew needs.
Considering I already have one 360 I don't want to be spending too much on a second console, so would I be able to buy a 'Core' console and hack it to play backups of my games or would I need to buy an 'Arcade'? also could anyone give me advice as to whether all drives are now hackable? the last time I looked into 360 hacking was about 2 years ago and the 'Lite-on' drives were unhackable, has this been fixed? if not what do I need to do to try and ensure I purchase a 360 that is hackable. Many thanks for any advice you can give me and sorry if I'm asking questions that have already been answered.
*BUMP* any help please guys, I just want to know if it's still possible to buy an Xbox 360 from the shops (in the UK) that I will be able to hack the drive for and use homebrew applications on. Thanks again for any replies that help.
all dvd drives are now hackable, homebrew is going to be a little harder to find. Check the manufacture date on the back of the box, before summer 09 and it WILL be JTAGable

Thanks so much for the speedy reply jpizzle! does this mean I could go to the shops and buy an Xbox 360 Arcade, bring it home and hack the drive and it's ready to play my backups? sorry to sound like a n00b but what is JTAGable? what's the issue with homebrew on newer 360s? thanks again for any help. :)
you can just buy a core system with a memory card an JTAG is the hack that you need to get homebrew on your 360, in summer 09 MS pu out an update that disabled the ability to do the JTAG hack. If your looking for homebrew you have to find a box manufactured before summer 09, there is a tutorial on how to do it HERE
