console not reading games...please help!!

Hi everyone...I really hope someone can help me put a smile back on my son's face!! His 360 is not reading his games. It says 'reading' for a few seconds but then says open tray!! It also wouldnt open but ive sorted that out...although to be honest the whole thing is not sounding very healthy!!! There is no error message coming up, and he said it's been doing this for awhile, even before the drawer started playing up! His answer has been t give it a whack...not sure thats helped either!! Any ideas would be very greatfully recieved...what with a whole 3 days off school and no xbox!!! Thanks in advance :O)

The DVD Drive is failing, or most likely the laser itself. Best thing would be to get a new laser for it! If it's an unmodified console, you could just sent it to M$ and have them fix it.
