Hey guys i just ran into an odd problem.

Bought an arcade today to mod, changed the ring of light to blue no problem. Tested the controller with both batteries and a battery pack to make sure it all worked right. Took it apart, replaced the leds with blue and everything was great. Put it back together, tested it and it all worked. I put the battery pack on it and the leds are barely lit at all. So i try my other battery pack and it's a little brighter but still pretty dim. Two AA batteries will light them right up but the battery pack seems to put out a lower voltage to the leds or something. Here's the kicker, when i plug in the play and charge cable to the controller with the battery pack in it, it lights right up. I made a quick video to help you guys understand what's going on.

What an odd problem......I wonder how many controllers like this i've modded (i've modded at least 30 controllers). I've gone though about 300 smd leds so i know it's not my fault.

I personally don't do any kind of soldering but I have a friend who does. I guess the newer controllers need a SMD with a lower voltage and should be a bit brighter when only the battery pack is connected.

It just doesn't make any sense why they would change it though. I doubt the 4 leds were pulling that much power from the battery pack. I mean only 1 of them is lit the whole time.

Most blue leds are rated at 3V (2.8-3.4 somewhere in that range). Where are you going to find a smd 0603 led that is rated lower?

Took the controller apart mid post and took some pics

Looks like you need a led that's rated for 2.4v minimum if you want them to be bright with the rechargable battery pack.

If all they did was put a resistor in that circuit, i could possibly remove it and just jump the 2 points. 3.2v wouldn't fry the leds so i might just try that. I have to figure this out, it's driving me nuts.
