Not sure if this question has been posted, I did look. I have been searching for hours trying to get a straight answer, actually.
I am looking to get an new HDD, preferably 120gb, for my 360 that came with a 20gb HDD. I have basically filled that with the DLC from GOTY and platinum hits games Ive bought, and need more space. I want to copy my gamertag and all my achievements (most importantly), and I also would like to copy my saved games and all other data. I have a few things I downloaded from xbox live for free, though I used codes. One was for Saboteur, the other the Stig car pack for Forza 3. I also have DLC for Oblivion, Forza 3 and 2, and other games that I can reinstall off the discs, but I wonder if that can be copied too.
I want to make the process as simple as possible, but I also want to copy, not transfer, the data. Everywhere I look people have been saying to use a transfer cable. I work for a video game company and can get a cable or a MU very easily, but I want to leave a copy of all the info, including my gamertag, on the original HDD, just in case. Maybe I cant do that easily, I dont know, but my main concern here is that the 120gb HDD I will probably get will not be new or from Microsoft and I dont want to transfer everything just to watch it disappear if the drive crashes a week later.
If anyone can give me some help or suggestions, I would appreciate it. I hate that Microsoft needed to make this so hard and put so many restrictions on it. I dont play games online, my gamertag is local, not live enabled, and I dont play copied games. I can get on live, but I dont know if I can redownload anything I got through codes shipped with the games. All those codes have expired as well, and said were only redeemable once.
You are wise not to want to use the stink'n transfer cable, one assumes you know it deletes source drive data, not sure if xplorer 360 would be of use see link below,i've got a talismoon minispy which is pretty much just an adaptor to allow connection of the encased hdd without the need to strip it out of the hdd cover however i haven't bothered to use it transfer stuff tho i can see the folders, bear in mind any xbox live achievements etc should if i'm not mistaken be automatically transfered once you fetch your gamer tag on the new hdd,i'll leave it that someone with more knowledge can help with the rest
