i bought a console off ebay with a drive flash. the guy couldn't tell me what version he has on it he just knows it was applied around 09/10. so i tried deblob2, marvelvscapcom3 - i used abgx360 and 360 wave patcher to patch it to wave 2. the console recognises both games but they both want to update my dashboard which is currently at 2.0.8955.0.
so, should i update? or do i have to flash the latest firmware on the drive? i don't even know which drive is in the console...
If I were you, I'd flash the drive to the latest firmware "LT+ 1.1 for liteon, benq and hitachi;LT 1.0 for samsungs". That way, you don't have to worry about wave patching and you won't have problems with any of the newer games. Also, I wouldn't try to update the dashboard with your current firmware. I'm not sure what firmware is on it, but if you have to wave patch all the way down to wave 2, then it's surely not going to work with the new dash and wouldn't be safe at all. Even if you don't play on live, it could render your console useless for the newer games out if you don't update to LT+.
the thing is - i just wave patched because it seemed to be the safest option to get the game running since wave 2 is compatible to all firmwares except ixtreme 1.6. since i know that my firmware is from around 09/10 it maybe should be 1.51 or something...
i might try wave 3 and 4 - i don't really want to open the console. but those waves won't change the fact that i need to update my dashboard for above said games, right?
i am not going online with this console, i just thought of making my day a bit cheaper and playing campaigns n stuff on it. btw - is it safe to use my online profile on this console then? or will it be corrupted?
Good to see it worked for you. You must have an old hitachi or samsung drive. I believe the newer drives that are flashed with older modified firmware are detectable by the new dash, and thus won't run wave patched games.

yeah, it still works! but not for homefront anymore. yesterday i updated with my original bulletstorm disc and after that i threw in homefront. it asked to update again and i said yes (although it hasn't worked before - that's why i did the update with the bulletstorm disc) but this time it worked and i could start the game a couple of times yesterday.
but today it asks for the update again and i even downloaded the update from xbox.com but when i try to install it it just says "your xbox is up to date"...
