I just recieved my Maximus Xtractor 2 and Vampire Probe Kit yesterday....After scraping, cutting traces, and soldering...I hooked up the KIt and it came on like it was suppose to with a beeping sound and blue LED light. Only thing though, the Vampire probe's green LED never came on and I hooked it up the same exact way it was mention in the tut. I also noticed the pic in the tut of the MAximus2 had a lil different design from mine. The Vampire probes 5-pin power unit was located in a different spot on the Max2. Not knowing if this made a difference or not, I still tried to read the drive anyways...and nothing ever happend....tried twice more then gave up. Any clues to what's going on? Thanks (-_-) ZZzzZzz

You have it plugged in wrong. Which the wire around. The red wire should be on pin 1 on the board.

Call up ED at VGC and see what he says. Hard to believe. It should have green on all the time.

I ordered an extractor 2 and vampire probe from VGC a couple weeks back and although I do have a green light, blue light on the extractor, the eject button only works sometimes, drives only respond soemtimes....I've tried both the long and the short presses on the button. Unfortunately, I haven't had the time to contact ED about this, I've been taking all the newer consoles over to another local modder. I was hoping more people would talk about their experiences with these relatively new devices, so I could see what I was doing wrong/if I had it incorrectly installed/etc.

I know that the problem will more than likely be on my end and not with these tools.

"All drives should be updated to Lite Touch + (LT+) firmware if playing on XBOX live. Samsung drives and pre-78/79 Hitachi drives do not utilize AP 2.5. All other drives are considered to be detectable by Microsoft (YMMV). Make sure all rips are ABGX verified, contain SSv2, and patched AP2.5 (where needed). XGD3 must currently be burned on new drive with PC Burner Max firmware for 100% rip. All modded consoles can be potentially unsafe for use on XBOX live."

My eject button was doing the same thing also but I thought it was due to the pcb traces were cut.

My eject button was doing the same thing also but I thought it was due to the pcb traces being cut during that time period. I havent tried it out since then. Im calling VGC here in 15min when they open to find out whats going on.

Your drive will NOT eject if the traces are cut. Why would they? Read over this guide:

http://www.pothsprojects.com/viewtopic.p...re+guide#p11701

I've done many 9xxx series drives using this.

lol Yeah I was just stating that to Mr. Greaser since he said something about eject not working. Only thing Im worried about is my vampire probe. I called them and they said the probe has to be pluged into the inner Pins and if the problem still exist...I need install the newest firmware...off the site.

So yeah...they sent me the newest FW update 1_4 for the Xtractor in the mail and it worked. As for your eject button not working buddy, I would make sure your jumpers are on the right setting and if everything is good either try the newest update or call or e-mail them. Thanks for the FYIs (-_-) ZZZzzZz...

Cool, thanks for the info. I tested the xtractor out on several good drives (sammy, hitachi) I had laying around before even venturing into a 9 series Lite-On. I will check my jumpers and mess with it a bit more especialy since I have a 7 series here as well.
